No problem. Indeed this game has a lot of stuff to learn, which is one of the reasons it's such a great game. I can't remember how many times I've started a world over.

 

Yes you need to mark the water to be harvested as with other resources (any body of water will do, the nearer the better). If you have a well it will be automatically used by the water masters (without marking), but it will not produce much water when compared to harvesting water from. You can also build rain catchers which will be utilized the same way as wells. Water purifier is an important building since it can make clean (drinkable) water from dirty water.

 

This could be is the reason why your farm isn't producing, if you have assigned farmers and marked some wild food to be harvested. You don't need many water masters though, if your village is tightly built and the distances are not big.

As you have probably noticed, the villagers in the game will perform different tasks according to which job they are assigned to. Some (most) of the tasks in the game will not be performed at all if you haven't assigned your villagers to the right jobs. You can see and manage the different jobs your villagers can be assigned to on the left-side window.

 

The villagers that were mining the rock were builders. Builders mine resources only for the structures they are building, and will stop once they are finished. To accumulate resources, you need miners (for rock), lumberjacks (for wood) and crystal harvesters (for crystals). Water is harvested by water masters, and wild food (the food that is growing on the map) is harvested by the farmers (note that you will also have to mark water and wild food for harvesting, with the exception of a well).

 

To be able to assign your villagers to these jobs, you will need respectively a mining facility (for miners), a lumber shack (for lumberjacks) and a crystal harvestry (for crystal harvesters). Water master job slots are gained from building either a water purifier and/or a well, and farmers job slots are obviously gained by building a farm.

 

Dirty water can be used to water farms, but clean water is needed for drinking water. Water purifier will clean dirty water, you should also build a water bottler to bottle the clean water so that the villagers can carry their drinking water with them. As for your farms, they might not have been watered enough if you didn't have water masters assigned and/or if you hadn't marked the water (if you didn't have a well) for harvesting (any open water on the map will do).

 

All storages, including wood storages, do not have much room in them before you upgrade them. If they are full, the villagers will just dump the materials somewhere in the village area. It doesn't matter much though, the materials will not vanish unless something directly happens to them.

 

When placing new buildings, red indicators mean that there is a unharvested resource in the tile, yellow indicators mean that the terrain is otherwise unsuitable (harvested resources, other reasons that I don't actually know :) ). You can get rid of both types by selecting the "destroy terrain" tool from the right bottom corner and marking the terrain.

 

All resources, with the exception of rock, will grow back at a slow rate (you can increase the growth with the "motivate land" spell). It doesn't matter whether the terrain is marked for harvesting, or what does it look like, as long as it's reserved for the said resource. In addition, resources can and will grow to empty tiles.

I feel the same. You can barely survive the night 16, after that it's futile. There's a huge jump in the amount specters and fire elementals.

I agree. I would love to see water more as an separate element with unique properties, rather than just a sort of alternative ground texture. Fish and fishermen would be fit into the game incredible well.

 

I also think water should significantly slow down monsters, making bodies of water act as natural barriers which players could exploit when building their settlements.
