This is kind of shooting way ahead but I think it would be pretty cool if when you started a new game you started at the beginning of any of the seasons. This would add some interest in difficulty if you started in winter (although I'm not sure you would be able to eat at all in that case, unless there was also the hunting system and you could say 'well, can't start a plant farm, can't do animal farm because I can't feed them with my non-existant plant farm, so I'll run around hunting).

I like the idea of seasons in this game. It would defiantly add diversity in the game. Also your idea would be a good idea to keep the player from starting off the same way. Your idea also made me think of another; having season specific monsters/animals to hunt (if it does get implemented). adding diversity and possible new strategies for each season.

There has to be white foxes, because white winter foxes would be very cool. I do think seasonal mobs would be a great idea B)

Ray's already planning on putting weather and seasons in.

That would be evily cruel to start in winter..even for Ray :-)

I think it would add interest (you know, start up the game as someone who's never played before and say ooo! pretty snow!) along with some variance in difficulty. You're supposed to die anyways right?

Ooh, I know, yellow snow would be great for starting food!

In seriousness, it should really always start you in spring. You need the time to get a village going before it's too late. Also, faster time passing might be good given the rate of construction villagers have (4 people build a full house in like an hour). Some speed that would appropriately match monsters spawning after a year would be cool.

It really a good idea, it would change the monotony of the color in the game (Green, brown and grey).

Winter should be a more difficult season to harvest, build things.
