I just bought the game and I found no instruction about what to do after downloading it.

The logical thing to do was to unzip the folder, and after that I found a RtR.sh which looked like it would be the thing to launch and after a chmod +x I tried to launch it, but it only brought the error message "Error: Unable to access jarfile Core.jar".

Since there's apparently no hash to check that Core.jar was correctly downloaded I cannot vouch that it is, but what should I do now?

I'm on OpenSuse Leap 15.1 (yeah, I don't really know why either) if it's relevant.

I don't know it it's just how Engrampa counts bytes but in the archive Core.jar is written as having 7,9 Mo and once archived it shows 7,6 Mo only (7921837 octets).

Apparently the game necessitates the Java Runtime Environment and OpenSuse doesn't have it in its package.

Can that be the problem? Shouldn't the dependancy on JRE be explained somewhere?

I installed the JRE (I think?) and still have the same error message...

When running Core.jar from the command line I get the message "invalid file (bad magic number): Exec format error"

I tried it on Mint and had the same error message.

Then I did a chmod +x on Core.jar and I don't get any error message but nothing happens.

I did the same chmod +x on OpenSuse and I still get the same error when executing RtR.sh but if I execute Core.jar I don't have any error anymore, but nothing happens either.

Well java -jar Core.jar launched a "Rise to Ruin" window which freezed my computer for a while then disappeared.

That's the result of the command in the terminal:

[S_API] SteamAPI_Init(): SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() did not locate a running instance of Steam.
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed
[S_API] SteamAPI_Init(): SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() did not locate a running instance of Steam.
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed
Processus arrĂȘtĂ©
I do have a logs folder now though.

Here's what it contains:

Base settings file no longer valid, resetting!
Failed to load graphics properties file, resetting to default!

OK, I retried without any major software running concurrently and it worked with java -jar Core.jar

At last!
