If it crashes every time, first thing to try is select the region, hold shift, and click the 'reset ai' button that appears. If it still crashes, you'll need to open up profiles/profileX/saves/worldMap/WorldMaps/, open the folder of the last region you played in, inside you'll see folders like "survival1", "survival2", corresponding with the game mode you're playing. Delete the "1" folder, restart the game if you'd restarted it, or hadn't already closed it.
