We all know, and Sean Bean knows best, that winter is coming.

Winter is announced as the hardest season, as temperatures are falling, water is freezing, food doesn't grow and snow slows down peoples. This is very horrifing, but actually not. After wintering a lot, I noticed, there is no reason to be afraid from the coldest season. Details below:

1. Temperature

In Cold weather people start freezing and go inside. As far as I could tell this doesn't matter alot as Housing gives free heating and I think while people sleep they fill their Celsius bar and almost got no downtime due to freezing.

-> Colder weather could force people some days to stay at home or risk to die on long tasks

-> Wood consumtion for house heating, could make the economy feel the winter

2. Freezing Water

frozen Water is a bad thing when depending on water prufiers or rain collectors. People who use these might actually feel the chill and join the nightwatch. As I am currently using wells I don't feel that problem. I have 10 wells for 200 people and they are moistured quite well all year.

Resulting by this the most dangerous ice sheet challenge is the fact that fire elementals can cross your moat.

->Nerv Wells maybe?

->Add Water towers which can be forbidden until winter

3. Food don't grow in Winter

As the tooltip tells us, food cannot grow when it's too cold. This might be a bad thing, if somebody would like to grow food in winter. By now I have 2-4 people working on a makeshift farm and are harvesting food 24/7. I think they never ever harvested their own grain. Following this my main food source for the winter is the large food fields I was growing in rainy summer, using the regrowth spell. Thanks to food not going bad over time, or plant not die in winter, my 2 farmers keep harvesting year round and ignore Sean Bean completely.

-> Plants die when its too cold aswell, but grow back over the year

-> Raw Food gets rotten after 2 seasons

4. Snow

Actually yes, Snow slows down things, this is bad. But, snow rarely stays longer than a day, if it's even actually snowing at all. By this the danger of John Snow failing, I mean much snow falling, is very low. I think I mostly saw 1-2 days every season people being slowed down by snow, wich actually doesn't hurt a lot on my perfect roads, so I keep my people on doing the same in winter as in every other season.

-> More snow

-> More persistant snow

-> More penality for snow

-> Waymaker remove snow on roads

Conclusion

All these points are experiences I have made. The lines in green are simple ideas I had while writing, which might solve my points, independant if they make sense themselves or not, so please don't focus on them too much.

All-In-All I'd be glad to hear others popels opinion and want to share mine, that this winter would make snow white blush.

Crops already will die in winter if not tended to, actually :P

Ray has considered a method for snow buildup, at least visually, but if it happens, likely to be awhile as other things are being worked on atm.

I mean the crops on the map, not on the farm. Farm dies correctly, but the nature ones seem to take every weather.
