Cannot start via steam

Hi,

 

First time posting here. If this bug is already reported, let me know and I'll delete this post.

 

I wanted to try the game for the first time, but found that I couldn't start the game through Steam. It would just show the splash and then not do anything beyond that.

I located the game files. Even trying the launcher in administrator mode did not help. Launching the executable jar opened the game fine.

 

I am running a Windows 10 Intel Core I7 64bit with Intel HD graphics 530 (not really a gaming PC, I know, but it's what I've got).

Also, bit buggy at the start. When generating a new game, it lags a bit and the program registers as non-responsive. In fact, it hasn't started yet. Trying to start it again.

 

I haven't managed to play, yet.

Okay, no, after I restarted the game (via the executable jar) it did manage to start a new game. Trying out survival mode, now.

Jeez, the music freezes during loading screens, frequently. At least I managed to get into the game, I think...

Your specs may be low, but you should still be able to play. You may have some third party apps causing trouble. A few apps like Cheat Engine, or malware scanners can slow the game to a crawl. It's possible they're interfering.

 

Dr. Web for example is a notorious one, it scans every single asset loaded into the JVM live, as it's loaded. This causes the game to run unplayably slow.

 

Open up your /logs/ folder and see if you can find a log with some logs with some loading times, and if you do, paste them in here. :)

 

Updating your Intel HD drivers may help, you can also try rebooting then turn off all third party apps, including your malware scanners. Then turn on one thing at a time until the problem comes back.

 

Usually problems like these are weird system problems, your specs should be able to run the game just fine. How much ram do you have? If you're right on the min spec line (4gb) you may just be running into some memory problems and need to turn off as much as you can, including your browser.

No, I have plenty of RAM (32GB). My AV is ESET.
 
I don't think there are any logs generated when I try to launch via Steam. Below is one of the logs (not sure whether it was generated via steam launch or running the Jar or what).

I see there is an OutOfMemoryError occurring. I wonder if I need to somehow tell it to use more of my RAM?

Trying to run it via clicking the exes just brings up the splash and then closes. It shows up in my task manager and then disappears. Also, I don't see any logs generated.

I see that I only have 32bit Java installed. I am going to install 64bit Java and then try changing the bat file (I made a backup) to be

 

java -Duser.country=US -Duser.language=en -jar -d64 -Xmx8g -Xms1g Core.jar

Trying to run via Steam or the exe files still does nothing.
